cannot connect to Linux repository

cvs [login aborted]: The :server: protocol does not support the login command

The server (Ubuntu) I need to connect to requires that I use
CVS login. How can I configure this extension to handle this?

Are you sure that is :server: and not :pserver:?
Try to use :pserver: at protocol.
