Workstation:
Win XP Pro
Dreamweaver MX 2004

CVS Server:
Red Hat Linux 9
CVS version 1.11.2

What did I do?:
- downloaded cvs4dw1.5.0_lite_setup.zip
- installed DW MX 2004 Extension from above zip file
- added cvs.exe to Env Vars by way of Control Panel>System>Advanced>Env Vars
- check cvs at command line, works fine
- opened DW and created new site
- tried 'commit' and got a successful response

Problem:

This is updating my LOCAL copy. I need to tell it where my CVS server (Linux) is so I can work from that repository.

Where do I setup the remote repositories?

Remote Repository need to be set up from Linux System Administrator.
Ask him to tell to you or if you have access, read on CVSNT webpage how to do it.

We have a repository and we use it often. This is just the first time I have tried to access it with this plugin for DW/Windows.

That wasn't much help ...

I am looking at the control panel gui that cvsnt provides and it only shows you how to create LOCAL repositories.

Since your software MUST use cvsnt, I was hoping for better support.

OH, I think I understand now.
First you need to make new module (in commercial version) or checkout ... this two have repository field.
If you choosed a project which was already checked out by other CVS software and you setted up a site for it, right click on Files Panel and you will see there a menu.
CVS for DW get out informations from CVS directory (Root file).
Hope this help.

Using cvsnt I was able to run this command:

cvs -d :ssh:cvsuser@cvs.mydomain.com:/usr/local/cvsroot checkout myproject

That "downloaded" all the files in that repository, which is great.

So now I go into DW and create a site using that new directory, 'myproject' as the home folder.

When I open a file, then edit it, then try to commit the changes, they DO NOT update the copy on the remote repository I mentioned above.

What is going on? Am I missing something? Does this not work in the way I am trying to use it?

I figured it out. I had 3 problems.

Problem 1. I could not figure out how/where to add a remote repository.

Solution 1. You cannot use the Control Panel GUI provided by cvsnt to add a remote repository. You must run a command line string to "check out" a "module" (I say project) then create the DW site around it.

Problem 2. Choosing the root folder of the site from the Files Panel and selecting 'commit' would fail with "No CVSROOT defined..."

Solution 2. Don't choose the root folder.

Problem 3. When trying to test the plug-in by doing a "commit" on a file that had not been modified, it would fail.

Solution 3. Make some changes, the 'commit'

This may help others in the future. Thanks for your time.

This is got to be the worse product support ever --there are NO help files that come with the LITE version/. NOTHING explains how to setup the program at all-NOTHING explains that you have to configure CVSNT-- or how to do this...I GIVE UP -- this is way more hassle than the system I use now - Secure CRT...

YOU PEOPLE NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER.... I HAVE NEVER HAD TO GO TO FORUMS TO FIND OUT HOW TO USE A PRODUCT AND YOUR ANSWERS SOUND LIKE YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO USE IT!! -- GO TO CVSNT SITE THAT WAS YOUR ANSWER-- GOOD ONE

We expect that users who want to use CVS, have some knowledge in this areea, otherway is hard to start with CVS.
For this, we included in menu a link to a CVS Book, to start to understand what is a repository etc. Also we recommend to see CVSNT webpage, because our software make the bridge between CVSNT and DW.
Indeed maybe we need to show some real example, but is very hard to guess each system configuration, we help as we can and I hope with luck.
I'm sorry that you drop our product, is your decision. We work hard to improve it and make it better, but cannot make it in that way to do all people satisfied.
Sorry again for this.
